Midnight Black Bedroom Furniture

When my husband and I got married 7 years ago he brought with him his old bedroom furniture which I believe had actually been given to his Mom many years ago by a family friend. Being newly married and on a small budget it was great that he was bringing this furniture because we were able to use it in our guest room. All these years I have kept it the way it was even though I was never thrilled with the look. At least a year ago I removed the nightstand from the room and sanded it, preparing to paint it. Well, it sat in the garage and never got touched again…until now! I decided to go ahead and paint this furniture midnight black as I am working on redecorating my guest room and using black and white with some pops of other bright colors. The furniture is really quite simple, but I like that about it. It had its original stain covered in some type of clear coating so I decided to lightly sand it to gain back some texture and used an oil based paint and primer in one. Maybe not the best option, but I will learn as I go. I have done two coats so far on the headboard and dresser and they still need some touching up.

Here are some before pictures:

And...here are some pics after the first coat of paint:

So, as you can see it is still a work in progress but I am excited for the outcome!
