CeCe Caldwell Spring Hill Green Nightstand

Ok, so I am postponing my whole guest room makeover reveal, because, well frankly I'm just not done! I'll probably post pics of the furniture by piece because that is done, and in the room and looking great! However; my walls are still bare!

For now though, I wanted to share this little nightstand that I picked up from Craigslist for next to nothin'. I bought this nightstand below and a dresser a couple of weeks ago. The dresser is still in my garage but my priority was to get this nigh stand ready so I could actually use it as a place to put my printer on and store some work things in the bottom.

BEFORE
As you can see, this baby needed some work! It had been painted with crackle paint so I decided to go ahead and strip it, sand it and then paint it with a wonderful color that I found from CeCe Caldwell's Paints - Spring Hill Green. I purchased the paint online from Beaches Coastal Creations and I received it within a couple of days and the paint was great!! It was my first time using chalk paint on furniture and I have to say it was very easy to deal with and I love the outcome.

So, here she is before I added the fabric lining to the bottom part of the nightstand. I thought it would look cool to add this and it turns out it was easy and looks great!

Sorry for the weird angles, I have this thing jammed in between other furniture and a wall and of course forgot to take pics before placing it there. Hopefully, you get the idea.

The fabric lining was super simple and this fabric is the same that I used on the guest room furniture. For the drawers in the dresser I pretty much followed the instructions that I found here using fabric stiffener, but I also put a layer of Mod Podge before I laid the fabric down and then a layer over it and I found that was a little too stiff so for this nightstand, I simply cut the fabric to size, brushed on a layer of mod podge, laid the fabric and smoothed out the wrinkles and then brushed another layer of mod podge on which made it nice and secure and sturdy!

I'm really happy with the way it turned out and can't wait to paint my next piece with this great color.

Mod Podge Fabric Letter

So, it has been a while since I last posted but that does not mean I haven't been busy! I am still working on quite a few things for the guest room and will be sharing those soon. The furniture was moved into the room last night, I did DIY fabric drawer liners today and also used my brand new CeCe Caldwell paint to paint another small piece I'm putting in that room and everything is looking GREAT so far. I'm just not ready to reveal everything yet as I am tweaking a couple of things here and there...but in a few days for sure!

So, in the mean time I just wanted to a small craft I did in less than 30 minutes. I found a letter T at Michael's for about $2. I painted one side of the letter with gray chalk paint so it would not show the bare wood, let dry, and then I laid the letter on the scrapbook paper and traced out the letter...

Cut it out, then smoothed on the mod podge with a brush...

Then, I placed my cut out T on top of the wood T, smoothed another layer of Mod Podge over the top and in no time at all it was dry and looking good!

A quick and simple craft that adds character to any decor. I saw this idea originally on Pinterest which led me to a great blog here. She used a letter and fabric she already had which is a great way to update with no cost at all. For me, I had to buy the letter so this project cost me about $2...still not bad!

Midnight Black Bedroom Furniture

When my husband and I got married 7 years ago he brought with him his old bedroom furniture which I believe had actually been given to his Mom many years ago by a family friend. Being newly married and on a small budget it was great that he was bringing this furniture because we were able to use it in our guest room. All these years I have kept it the way it was even though I was never thrilled with the look. At least a year ago I removed the nightstand from the room and sanded it, preparing to paint it. Well, it sat in the garage and never got touched again…until now! I decided to go ahead and paint this furniture midnight black as I am working on redecorating my guest room and using black and white with some pops of other bright colors. The furniture is really quite simple, but I like that about it. It had its original stain covered in some type of clear coating so I decided to lightly sand it to gain back some texture and used an oil based paint and primer in one. Maybe not the best option, but I will learn as I go. I have done two coats so far on the headboard and dresser and they still need some touching up.

Here are some before pictures:

And...here are some pics after the first coat of paint:

So, as you can see it is still a work in progress but I am excited for the outcome!
